HairGrid LLC ("HairGrid," "we," "us," or "our") built the HairGrid app to help you see and section the back of your head so you can style your hair at home. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to the HairGrid iPhone app, the HairGrid desktop viewing app, and our website at hairgrid-app.com.
Camera and video. When you use HairGrid, the iPhone app accesses your rear camera to capture a live view of the back of your head. To let you watch that view on a larger screen, your iPhone streams the live video directly to your paired computer over your local Wi-Fi network using a peer-to-peer connection (WebRTC). This video is used only during an active styling session to power the app's core feature. It is not routed through our servers, and HairGrid does not record, store, or share your camera footage.
Head-position data. During a session, the app estimates the position and orientation of your head on-device to keep the grid aligned, and sends that information directly to your paired computer along with the video. Like the video, this data is used in real time and is not stored on our servers.
Account and profile information. When you create a HairGrid account, we collect and store: your username, your email address, your password (kept in secure, hashed form by our authentication provider), your hair type, and your account creation date.
App content and preferences. We store information you create or choose while using the app, such as your grid and session settings, saved sessions, tutorial progress, and products you've favorited. We also store your account's subscription status (the access tier on your account) so the app knows which features to make available to you. This lets your profile and preferences stay in sync across your iPhone and computer.
Purchase information. HairGrid is currently free to download and use, and we do not collect payment information inside the app. If we offer a paid subscription in the future, your payment would be handled by a third-party payment processor — Apple through the App Store for any in-app purchase, or our payment processor (Stripe) for any purchase you make on our website. In either case, that processor handles your payment details and HairGrid does not receive or store your credit card or bank account numbers; we would receive only your subscription status so we can unlock the features included in your plan.
Technical and diagnostic data. Our service provider (Firebase) may collect limited technical information — such as a device identifier and basic app-performance or crash information — to keep the app running reliably and help us fix problems.
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers that help us operate the app, and only as needed to provide their service to us:
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or HairGrid.
We keep your account and profile information for as long as your account is active. We keep diagnostic information for as long as needed for the purposes described above, and then delete or anonymize it. Your camera video and head-position data are not retained — they exist only during a live session. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal information at any time (see "Your choices" below).
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. HairGrid is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us at privacy@hairgrid.app and we will delete it.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including secure authentication and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
HairGrid is operated from the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, your information will be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
